Raven Schexnayder, project chairman, is excited the 2022 Jeanerette Christmas Ornament Sale has begun.

“This is the second year of the ornament sales,” Schexnayder said. “Last year’s sales were very successful.”

The 2022 design features one of the many Victorian homes also on Main Street: the Harry B. Hewes house was built in 1897 for the founder and co-owner of Jeanerette Lumber and Shingle Company, which harvested cypress timbers from the Atchafalaya Basin from 1894 to 1925. This house was chosen to represent the several lovely, well-preserved homes in Jeanerette.

The 2021 design featured LeJeune’s Bakery, a well-known business on Main Street. The goal of the project is to bring a feeling of pride to our small town and to show appreciation for its history.

Thee project is sponsored by the Jeanerette Historic Preservation Commission, an entity of the Jeanerette City Council. Proceeds will be used for public projects in the Historic District which is comprised of several blocks of Main Street.

The gift-boxed ornaments are selling for $15 each; shipping is available. They will be on sale at Cooper Street Coffee House, December 11. In response to the strong sales of the 2021 ornament, a limited number of these collectables are available for those who may have missed getting theirs last year.
