The New Iberia Police Department is searching for a suspect, Jatavist Markal “Latay” Reedom, a black male, approximately 5-foot-10, 150 pounds.

Police said Reedom is being charged with one count of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On Tuesday around 9:30 p.m., oficers of the Uniformed Patrol Division of the New Iberia Police Department responded to a crash at the intersection of Iberia Street and Ambassador W. Lemelle. Drive.

Upon responding to the crash, Officers were informed that a male inside of the vehicle had a single gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. There were four other individuals inside of the vehicle as well, including a juvenile.

The male victim died as a result of his injuries.
