You only have one chance to make a good first impression and the family of Pierce Derise did just that.

When kids are growing up, they are sometimes threatened with “be good or I’ll tell the police” even for missing a simple chore. There could be other altercations children witness that are difficult as well.

Pierce was turning five recently, and like many kids, he wants to be a police officer when he grows up.

However, Pierce’s family realized he takes this dream to a new level as it’s become his obsession. They wanted his first interaction in his life with a police officer to be a positive one so he can continue to follow his dream.

Enter New Iberia Sheriff Office Deputy Colby Sigue.

Deputy Sigue was able to stop and surprise Pierce on his birthday and say hi. He posed for a photo and let Pierce take a photo with the police car.

True to form and his passion, Pierce was decked out in a replica uniform complete with real patches and an American Flag.

He had a fake baton and radio on his belt, but he’s leaving the weapons to the real deputies for now.

To make himself a little taller for duty, Pierce wore cowboy boots. They didn’t work as Deputy Sigue reported back to duty without the birthday boy. But the smiles, photos and interaction will last a lifetime.
