For two days, New Iberia was home to the best gumbo in the world during the 33rd Annual World Gumbo CookOff Championship presented by the Great Iberia Chamber of Commerce.

Huge crowds filled main street for two days and enjoyed music, vindors, the two-day event kicks off Oct. 14 with the Cajun Creole Fest, Meanest Beans Cook-off, Youth Gumbo Cook-off and Sunday’s Gumbo Cookoff.

Daily Iberian and Acadiana Lifestyles Publisher Ken Harty was one of the judges on Sunday.

Judging the Gumbo was a blast and difficult all at the same time. They were all so good and I had no idea that there were so many approaches to consider,” Harty said. “The commitment of all the teams to cook Gumbo and the turnout and support from the community is amazing. Kudos to the Chamber of Commerce for doing a great job organizing this one of kind event.”
