Male Athlete of the Week
Traville Frederick, Jeanerette
Frederick has been putting in top performances on both sides of the ball this season, and last week’s road win over Covenant Christian was no different. With an 18-yard receiving TD on offense and a huge 98-yard pick-six on defense, Frederick was the spark the Tigers needed to get their seventh win of the season.
Luke Landry, Catholic High
Landry guided the Panthers to a dominant 14-0 win over Loreauville, putting the brakes on the Tigers’ plan of a District 8-2A championship. With one passing touchdown in each half, Landry’s composure in the pocket and ability to deliver big plays when it mattered most proved to be the difference on Friday.
Bryant Leon, Westgate
Junior all-around athlete Bryant Leon hasn’t had much time to get himself settled in as QB following several injuries at Westgate, but that hasn’t slowed him down. Going 16/22 with 244 passing yards and one TD against a tough STM defense, Leon will be crucial to Westgate’s performance against Northside in the final regular season game.
Ty Olivier, Acadiana Christian
The Lions were unable to get on the scoreboard in their ACEL state final game against John Paul the Great on Saturday, but that didn’t stop Olivier from earning league Most Valuable Player honors in addition to being named to the all-state team as both a quarterback and linebacker. Leading the league in nearly every statistic, Olivier helped guide ACS to the program’s first state championship appearance.
Dylan Singleton, Loreauville
Senior defensive lineman Dylan Singleton may have ended up on the wrong side of the scoresheet against Catholic High, but the big man had a phenomenal night to include several key tackles and hurries in addition to an interception. Singleton will be a key piece in the Tigers’ playoff dreams this season.
Female Athlete of the Week
Anna Breaux, Episcopal of Acadiana
Breaux played a major part in ESA’s success this season, guiding the team to wins against Central – B.R., Barbe and Highland Baptist in the final week of the regular season. Her performances on the court have earned her a place on the Louisiana High School Coaches Association West Volleyball All Star Team.
Addi Boudreaux, Acadiana Christian
Boudreaux recorded 21 assists, five kills and 13 digs in Acadiana Christian’s state final loss on Saturday, earning a spot on the ACEL all-state team.
Madison Broussard, Catholic High
Broussard managed to fight off a recurring knee issue to lead the Lady Panthers to a 5-2 record in the final week of the volleyball regular season, propelling Catholic High to the No. 4 seed in the Division III playoffs.
