ERATH—A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Alvin James Benoit, 83, will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held beginning at 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at David Funeral Home of Erath. Visitation will resume from 10 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
Mr. Alvin, a native and resident of Erath, died at 5:18 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Eastridge Assisted Living. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, who enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the horse races, drinking coffee at the police station, visiting with his community in Erath.
Mr. Alvin served in the police force for 24 years and served as Chief of Police the last 8 years of his career. He also was a painter for 12 years. He worked for Pelican Creamery 14 years as supervisor. He owned and operated A&G Janitorial Services.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus since February 1, 1983 and was currently still serving. He was a member of the fire department since the age of 18 years old and a member of the Chief of Police Association for 8 years.
He is survived by his son Ryan Benoit and his wife Annette of Abbeville; two grandchildren, Miranda and her husband Eric Landry of Erath and Matthew Morvant of Erath; eight sisters, Verna Benoit from Abbeville, Mary Arceneaux and her husband Mark of Delcambre, Linda Landry and her husband Keith of Erath, Clara Benoit of Delcambre, Janet Vincent and her husband Ronald of Abbeville, Nancy Broussard and her partner Randy Landry of Coteau, Diane Trahan of Erath and Helen Viator of Erath; one brother, Larry Benoit and his partner Deborah of Erath; a brother-in-law, Dave Falgout of Delcambre; a son-in-law, David Morvant; and three great-grandchildren, Kyler Dupuis, Emsley Landry and Sophia Landry.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Gloria Benoit; his parents Wilson Benoit and Annie Mae Romero Benoit of Erath; a daughter, Roxane Benoit Morvant of Erath; a brother, Wilson “Pete” Benoit Jr., two sisters, Ruby Falgout and Annie Bell Benoit.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of Erath Police, Erath Fire Department and Knights of Columbus.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kyler Dupuis, Larry Benoit and Dave Falgout.
