Funeral services were conducted for Charles Monnin, 97, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at David Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Entombment followed at Beau Pre’ Mausoleum.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
A native of Jeanerette and resident of St. Martinville, Charles A. Monnin passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at his residence.
Charles A. Monnin, whose presence graced our world until November 11, 2023, embodied a tapestry woven with valor, love and craftsmanship. His service in the United States Navy during World War II echoed his unwavering dedication and courage, a testament to his patriotism and commitment to a cause greater than himself. Alongside his beloved wife, Lillian Broussard Monnin, he cultivated a love that spanned five decades, finding joy not only in their bond but also in the shared love for their children and grandchildren, creating a legacy rooted in family and togetherness.
His professional journey as a manager at the local telephone company for over 30 years was marked by leadership and dedication, shaping the company’s success. Beyond the confines of his professional life Charles A. Monnin found solace and joy in the art of woodworking. His passion for crafting extended beyond a hobby; it became a part of his essence. He lovingly crafted his home furnishings and necessities, infusing his living space with not just functionality but also the essence of his craftsmanship, leaving a tangible legacy of his creativity and skill within the walls of his home. Charles A. Monnin’s life was a symphony harmonized by service, love and the artistry of his hands, a melody that will resonate through the memories of those who knew him
Mr. Charles is survived by his wife of 49 years Lillian Broussard Monnin; his two children, Wanda Johnson and Charles P. Monnin (Roxanna); grandchildren Spenser Monnin (Destinie), Katie Bonin (Garrett), Neeley Berry (Mark) and Brandi Williams; great-grandchildren Derrick Berry, Hayden Berry, Joseph Laviolette, Isaac Monnin, Leviticus Monnin, Zachariah Monnin, Ezekiel Monnin and Cash Bonin; one brother, Harry Monnin.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alexander Monnin and the former Emily Trahan Monnin; siblings Leo Monnin, Ferdinand Monnin and Mercedes M. Lampo.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Charles Monnin and Spenser Monnin.
