Kids Karate Club shines at the Big Show Karate Tournament

Five members of the Kids Karate Club, including three first-time competitors, traveled once again to Breaux Bridge to compete in the 2023 Big Show Karate tournament on Nov. 11.
The athletes competing were Anna Macias, Kane Alexander, Karter Sampey, Kaysen Teno and Ryder Lewis.
Anna Macias competed in the 6-7 year old first-time competition, winning second place in forms and second in sparring.
Kane Alexander also competed in the 6-7 year old first-time competition, winning third place in forms and third in sparring.
Karter Sampey, another first-time competitor in the 6-7 year old division, took home the gold in forms and second place in sparring.
Kaysen Teno competed in the 9-10 year old intermediate division, winning second in forms and second in sparring.
Ryder Lewis also competed in the 9-10 year old intermediate division, taking first place in both forms and fighting.
Coach Charles Mitchell said that he was thankful for the community support once again through the club’s M&M fundraiser. The Kids Karate Club meets at the King Joseph Recreation Center on Monday and Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. For more information, contact Mitchell at 337-276-6414.
