Literary festival to feature books, workshops and more

The Books Along the Teche Literary Festival schedule has been announced for 2024 with a litany of talks, tours and of course plenty of on tap for the festival’s three-day event in April.

The literary festival will take place April 5-7, and starts on a Friday with an art exhibit from L’Acadian Art Guild followed by a Creole presentation.

A talk from Edwin Lewis on sugar cane farming will also take place that day, followed by a viewing of the Sugarcane Dynasty film.

A Dave Robicheaux Mystery Bus Tour will also take place April 5 and will be a ticketed event.

A talk on the candidacies of the “three Cajun saints” will be presented to give information on three Catholics who are currently being considered for canonization.

Several talks on writing are scheduled that will include writing about your legacy, publishing and “authoring like a boss.”

A NOLA Writing Guild workshop will take place along with a talk from Poet Laureate Allison Pelegrin. A tour of local jazz legend Bunk Johnson’s room will take place followed by the official opening reception of the festival.

On April 6, children’s activities and a book fair where local authors can sell their works will take place followed by a sugar cane farming demonstration and a presentation on the future sculpture of writer James Lee Burke.

Seafood cooking demonstrations, a kayak tour and even a Zoom call with Burke is also set to be part of the action during that day of the festival as well along with several other events for local literary lovers.

On April 7, T-Boy’s Adventure Boat Tour, a ticketed event, will take place for those interested followed by a Live Oak Tour starting at the Shadow’s Visitors Center. The festival ends with the free Symphony Sunday in the Park put on by the Iberia Cultural Resources Association.
