Catholic High Grad Appointed to Air Force Academy

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia,announced that 2011 Catholic High School honor graduate David “Trey” DeGroat, III has received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

 “Trey is a gifted student, talented athlete, and school leader who is committed to his country. His hard-work ethic, integrity, and character are inspiring and what our country needs for a prosperous future,” said Landry.

 “I am honored to have nominated Trey and proud to announce his appointment to the Air Force Academy.”

 A student at Catholic HIgh in New Iberia, DeGroat was a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, and the Beta Club. He was a varsity letterman in football and baseball, earning First Team All-District and Academic All-Stars. Trey is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Ambassador and a two-time USA Today National Make a Difference Day winner.

 At the end of the June, DeGroat will enter the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for in-processing and basic cadet training.

Trey’s parents are proud of their son’s appointment and thankful for Congressman Landry’s nomination.

He is the son of David Jr. and Cathy DeGroat of New Iberia.
