Veterans of Foreign War Post 1982 and Ladies Auxiliary recently held an award night to recognize Teche area residents who have made outstanding accomplishments in the community. Each award recipient received a commemorative plaque.

 Among those recognized were Mel Olivier, Outstanding EMT, Sgt. John Carter, Outstanding Law Officer of the Year and Melanie Harvison, Outstanding Elementary School Teacher. Harvison is a teacher at Cane View Elementary School.

Mark Derouen was recognized as Outstanding Boy Scout of the Year. Joseph Cole Denise received honors for capturing first place in the Patriots Pen Essay Contest.

Philip Sandoz was recognized as a Voice of Democracy winner.
