According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, on Friday April 26, 2024, at approximately 10 a.m., a body was located floating in a canal off of West Liberty Farm Road, south of Kaplan, by a local farmer.

The male body was recovered and sent to Parish Forensics for autopsy and manner of death.

Detectives are in the process of trying to identify the individual.
