CISCO, Texas – Kyrin LeBlanc has some attractive options on the table.

LeBlanc, who graduated from St. Martinville Senior High in 2022, verbally committed to play baseball for the University of Texas earlier this week. He is also a potential candidate for July’s Major League Baseball draft.

LeBlanc’s stock has soared along with his fastball, which has been clocked in the 102-104 mph range. He has a 2-1 record for Cisco College, starting one game with 14 relief appearances (two saves), and has struck out 30 in 19.1 innings.

LeBlanc is in his second season at Cisco, which has a 35-18 record. The Wranglers (18-14 in conference) advanced to the NJCAA Region 4 Tournament from May 10-13 at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. The winner of that tourney will advance to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Texas ranks first all-time in winning percentage (.723) among NCAA college baseball programs. The Longhorns have won a third-best six national titles (1949, 1950, 1973, 1983, 2002, 2005) and have finished as College World Series runner-up six times.

The Longhorns, who have made 11 CWS appearances since 2000, are 30-19 this season (15-9 in Big 12) and have won eight of their last 10 games, including series wins vs. No. 18 Oklahoma and No. 14 Oklahoma State.

Blake Munroe with On3’s Texas site predicted that there is a 95% chance that the right-hander will suit up for the Longhorns, noting that he has thrown less than 20 innings in two years.

Opposing batters are hesitant to dig in against LeBlanc, and it’s not just because of his blazing fastball. His control (19 BB, 10 HBP) is a work in progress.

Coming out of SMSH, LeBlanc wasn’t a ranked baseball prospect by Perfect Game, which listed his maximum velocity at 89 mph in 2022. He competed in baseball, football and track and field in high school. In football, the quarterback turned receiver helped the Tigers to the Class 3A semifinals as a senior.

In February, LeBlanc wrote a heartfelt post on The HeartBeat of Acadiana Facebook page that generated 447 likes and 316 shares.

“I’m going to be honest; the road to this success was not easy,” he said. “There were many sleepless nights. But it was worth it. It wasn’t easy but now here at Cisco, I’m doing amazing things and have met amazing people!

“I still visit St. Martinville to speak to the youth playing park baseball to show them they can have a good life if they stay focused and out of trouble.”
