Loreauville High School teacher Raquell Archangel was honored by the Iberia Parish School Board Wednesday after being chosen as one of the nine semifinalists for Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Department of Education.
Archangel was selected as Loreauville High School’s Middle School Teacher of the Year, and then subsequently picked as the Iberia Parish Middle School Teacher of the Year in March.
Archangel is a self-contained special education teacher at LHS, where she has worked for almost eight years.
Superintendent of Schools Heath Hulin said she was selected by her colleagues to represent LHS as Middle School Teacher of the Year in December, and then chosen as the District Middle School Teacher of the Year on March 19.
Archangel attended the Teacher Leader Summit in New Orleans this past week along with the other semifinalists, where the 14 candidates were pared down to nine candidates. She will again be recognized and represent Iberia Parish July 27 at a gala to be held at the World War II Museum in New Orleans.
Archangel said the Teacher Leader Summit was a positive experience and she looks forward to once again representing the parish in July.
“I’m excited,” Archangel said. “I’m looking forward to seeing all of the semifinalists again.”
