A Mass of Christian burial was conducted for Lula Mae Boutte Lopez, 93, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor with Fr. Matthew Hebert as celebrant. Entombment followed at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. A Rosary was prayed in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m.
Lula Mae Boutte Lopez, beloved matriarch and cherished resident of New Iberia, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, at Consolata Nursing Home.
Known for her boundless love for her family, Lula’s life was a testament to devotion and generosity. She found immense joy in baking and cooking, delighting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren with her culinary creations during countless gatherings and celebrations. Her meticulous nature extended to her home, where she took pride in maintaining a warm and welcoming environment. Lula also had a passion for gardening and occasionally tested her luck at the casino, finding pleasure in both the tranquility of nature and the thrill of chance.
Married for 55 years to Burney Lopez, her steadfast partner and love of her life, Lula also dedicated herself to her professional endeavors. She contributed 25 years of her life to Armentor’s Jewelry, where her diligence and warmth endeared her to colleagues and customers alike. Prior to that, she honed her skills at Judd’s Bakery, leaving a lasting mark with her talents and dedication. Lula Mae Boutte Lopez will be remembered not only for her strong work ethic and culinary prowess but most of all for her unwavering love and devotion to her family, whose lives she enriched immeasurably. Her legacy of love and care will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Lula is survived by her two sons, Bobby Lopez and his wife Kay, Brady Lopez and his wife Shell; daughter at heart, Lisa Spain and husband Steven; grandchildren Taj Lopez, Rory Lopez and wife Jamie, Michael Byers, Keisha LeBlanc and husband Ken, Krista Byers; great-grandchildren Brittany McDaniel and husband Brock, Kristopher LeBlanc and wife Madison, Leah Esponge, and husband Seth, Kamille LeBlanc, Maia Lopez, Michael Terry Byers, Banks Byers, Eiland Byers; great-great-grandchildren Blazley McDaniel, Blayke McDaniel and Bailynn McDaniel.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Burney J. Lopez; her parents Remus and Eva Romero Boutte; and eight siblings.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Rory Lopez, Taj Lopez, Kristopher LeBlanc, Ken LeBlanc, Brock McDaniel and Steven Spain.
The family would like to thank the staff of Consolata Nursing Home and the staff of Community Hospice, and Hospice of Acadiana for the kindness and support they shared with Miss Lula and her family. Many thanks to Farley with David’s Funeral Home for helping our family through this difficult time.
