On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 8:50 p.m., the New Iberia Police Department responded to a shooting at a residence in the 1200 block of Walton Street.

According to a statement from the NIPD, upon arrival, responding officers were met by an individual who was surrendering on the street. The individual was identified as the suspect and found to be the victim’s ex-husband.

Officers entered the residence and located a female victim inside the residence suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified by the Iberia Parish coroner’s Office as Nitkitkia James was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Terry Lynn James, Sr. was subsequently booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the charges of:

Second Degree Murder

Obstruction of Justice
