Shovels will not be provided, and residents should be ready to fill their own sandbags.

The City of New Iberia will also be providing sandbags at the Acadian Ballpark on Landry Drive. Those visiting are asked to enter on Landry Drive and exit on Halphen Street for ease of flow.

The city also announced that trash collection will be closed on Wednesday due to the storm. Pelican’s will recover on Thursday and re-evaluate following the storm.

Schools in Iberia Parish were closed on Tuesday and Wednesday to allow for local residents to engage in hurricane preparations. The closure included district offices, extracurricular activities, athletic practices and events and student care cities.

Parish President Larry Richard issued an emergency declaration Monday recommending that all residents south of U.S. 90 voluntarily evacuate starting Monday. Those living in areas vulnerable to storm surges, those with special needs, those living in low-lying areas along lakes, bayous, streams and drainage structure and anyone living in a structure that has experienced flooding during heavy rain events should all consider themselves part of the recommendation.

Iberia Parish Government offices were also closed on Tuesday and Wednesday in consideration of the storm.
