Two Teche Area communities were awarded by the Louisiana Municipal Association for “exceptional improvements” and accomplishments made last year.
Held in Shreveport, the LMA awarded the Village of Loreauville and Town of Franklin with commendations for recent improvements to both municipalities.
The Village of Loreauville was given an honorable mention in the Basic Services category for municipalities with a population of 3,000 or less. The new fire station constructed for the village was the reason for the award, along with the town of Jean Lafitte and town of Woodworth.
Loreauville has been in the process of relocating its fire station for several years, and Mayor Brad Clifton said the new facility has not only made the department more efficient but also brought an improved fire rating.
“It’s a big deal,” Clifton said. “It’s exciting to get that recognition and to see the future of the fire department.”
The City of Franklin was the winner in the Technology and Creativity category thanks to the recently developed pocket park in downtown Franklin.
“I would like to thank the Franklin City Council along with my administrative staff for their hard work with this shared vision to make this project not only come to reality but now an award winning achievement for our community,” Mayor Eugene Foulcard in regards to the award.
“This project would not have been possible without the contributions of the sponsors listed by name below. The Council and I would like to dedicate this award in the memory of the late Councilman Larry Guilbeau Sr.”
The biggest winner of the announcement was the City of Scott, which won Best in Show for the Apollo Road extension project, which has helped to alleviate traffic, drive economic growth and improve community aesthetics in line with the town’s Master Plan.
