Careful What You Call For: Woman calls police over drugs she deliverd to New Iberia apartment

A woman who told police that a man pointed a gun at her and had drugs inside his apartment was arrested after it was revealed that she was the one who delivered the drugs, New Iberia police said.

Officers were called to an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Twenty Arpent Road about 5:30 p.m. Saturday after a woman told police that she went to the complex and man pointed a gun at her. She told police that she believed illegal narcotics were inside.

Police were able to obtain a search warrant and entered the apartment where they found the marijuana and two handguns with loaded clips. One of the guns had been reported stolen.

An investigation revealed the woman, Dana Bennett, 47, of Jeanerette, had delivered the drugs to the man in the apartment. She was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Schedule 1 narcotic.

Akeem Williams, 25, was found to be a convicted felon. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute a narcotic, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felony, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled narcotic, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and obstruction of justice.

Both Bennett and Williams were booked into Iberia Parish Jail pending further court action.
