- The Iberia Parish School Board .
The Iberia Parish School Board will vote on whether to install cameras at certain special education classrooms at Wednesday’s meeting.
The resolution would come in accordance with Act 558 that was passed during this year’s legislative session and would only be done at the request of the parent of a child with a disability.
The new policy would only apply to classrooms where more than 50 percent of students are receiving special education for more than 50 percent of the instructional day.
The purpose of the policy would be to allow parents to view their child’s presence upon request. State funding has been established for the purposes of setting the policy forward.
Act 558 passed this year in Legislature requires governing authorities of public and secondary schools in Louisiana to adopt policies allowing both audio and video recording in a classroom at the request of parents who have a child with disabilities, and also requiring that the installation of the policies be implemented no later than Dec. 31 of this year.
In other business, the board will give special recognition to the New Iberia Senior High All-State Band.
The meeting takes place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the board’s administrative office on Jane Street.
