After years of construction, the Doc Voorhies Wing of the Bayou Teche has reached substantial completion.

The project, which has been ongoing for eight years and consisted of four different construction phases, has finally been turned over to the Bayou Teche Museum to begin moving in and setting up new state of the art exhibits, archives and office areas, architect for the project David Allain said.

The completion of the new wing will triple the size of the Bayou Teche Museum and make room for brand new exhibits that tell the story of Iberia Parish and the surrounding region.

Part of the construction went to restoring century-old floors and reviving the original character and charm of the wing.

The museum will use the new wing to educate visitors of all ages on the forces that have shaped, and continue to shape, the people of the Bayou Teche region, by preserving and sharing the collections, stories and memories that define the area.
