JoaQuinn Charles, Jeanerette Football
The Tigers ended the regular season with a 70-0 thrashing of district rival Hanson Memorial last week, with Jeanerette’s defense looking just as impressive as the offense. JoaQuinn Charles had another night to remember, recording seven tackles and one fumble recovery in addition to two interceptions brought back for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Blake Delcambre, Loreauville Football
Junior Blake Delcambre’s offensive contributions against West St. Mary were perfectly balanced at 50 yards and one touchdown each in rushing and receiving against the visiting Wolfpack. The versatile WR/DB has played numerous positions for the Tigers this season, something head coach Terry Martin will be sure to take advantage of during the playoffs.
Semar Flugence, Episcopal of Acadiana Basketball
ESA basketball is back in full swing and it didn’t take senior Semar Flugence long to find the top of the scoring charts. With 25 points in ESA’s 60-30 win over Northside Christian and 17 points in a 50-33 loss to Family Christian, Flugence is the nucleus of a Falcons team that is planning to make a return to the March Madness tournament in 2025.
Tavias Gordon, Westgate Football
Gordon proved once again to be Westgate’s “Renaissance Man”, playing QB, RB and WR as the Tigers dominated in the second half against Comeaux. With 179 total yards (1-3, 70 passing/1-9 receiving/9-100, 2 TDs rushing), Gordon was the key piece in the Tigers’ Week 10 victory.
JohnDavid Hidalgo, Catholic High Football
Senior JohnDavid Hidalgo racked up 11 total tackles, including three for a loss, plus a sack and two forced fumbles on defense for the Panthers in a 49-7 win over Houma Christian last week.
Defensive dominance wasn’t enough for Hidalgo, who added a five-yard touchdown run to his tally against the Warriors.
David Nowakowski, Highland Baptist Cross Country
Competing against one of the best runners in the state is tough, but being his teammate is even harder. Freshman David Nowakowski has continued to improve this season, culminating in a fourth-place finish at the Division V Region 3 meet last week with a time of 18:13.31.
