Several Iberia Parish schools either improved on or maintained their School Performance Score in the latest numbers from the Louisiana Department of Education.
Delcambre Elementary, Iberia Parish’s highest-scoring school, earned another “A” for outstanding performances in several key metrics. DES was also named a National Blue Ribbon School earlier this year.
A majority of schools earned a “B” in 2024, with both Belle Place Elementary and St. Charles Street Elementary improving from a “C” last year.
Seven schools earned “C” grades for 2024. Johnston Hopkins Elementary School earned the Parish’s lone “D” grade.
School Performance Scores are calculated using a 150-point formula which measures how well schools perform in several different areas. Elementary school scores are calculated mostly on the Assessment Index, which is 70% of the final score. Growth Index counts for 25% of the score, with Interest and Opportunities rounding out the final 5%. Middle school formulas add the Dropout Credit Accumulation Index at 5%, while high schools count Assessment Andex, ACT/WorkKeys and Strength of Diploma all at 25%, with Cohort Graduation Rate (20%) and Interest and Opportunities (5%) being given less consideration.
To earn an “A” grade, schools must demonstrate mastery in several areas. Students must earn six or more credits by ninth grade, score an average of 21 or higher on the ACT, graduate on-time and see students achieve mastery or higher on state assessments.
State-wide, most school districts saw improvements in 2024. The statewide score has improved for the third-consecutive year, leading to Louisiana moving to 40th place in the U.S. News & World Report Best States ranking, up from 46th last year. Louisiana’s 4th graders led the country in reading growth and economically disadvantaged 4th graders improved from 42nd to 11th in reading on The Nation’s Report Card.
