Nestled under the sprawling oak trees at 6901 Weeks Island Road in New Iberia, the Blue Dog Farmstand is quickly becoming a local gem.
April and Jason Bridges opened the farmstead in early August. This charming farmstand offers a delightful mix of homemade goods and handcrafted items, all sourced directly from their small farmstead, Black Water Farms.
“I wanted a creative outlet to share things that I love,” April Bridges, the owner behind Blue Dog Farmstand said. “It’s more than just sharing pictures online. It’s about creating something beautiful, sharing it with the community, and ensuring it’s mindfully sourced. That’s the goal here.”
Named after Reba, the couple’s beloved Blue Heeler, the farmstand features an array of thoughtfully made products. From homemade bread loaves, cookies, and brownies to cornbreads, jams, fresh eggs and crocheted items, each piece reflects the couple’s commitment to quality and care.
April has also incorporated scented room sprays, candles and engraved goods into the mix, offering something for everyone.
Looking ahead, April and Jason have ambitious plans. A large garden is in the works for spring, promising fresh produce and flower bouquets. They’re also gearing up to introduce goods made from their goats next year.
April explains that while a homestead typically focuses on producing goods for personal use, their operation bridges the gap between a homestead and a farm.
“A farmstead allows us to produce for our family and our community,” she said.
The community has embraced the farmstand with open arms.
“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” April said. “People love the idea of buying and supporting local. Some even come by weekly for their bread runs. My dreams are becoming more true every week.”
For April, the ultimate goal is for the Blue Dog Farmstand to become a trusted household name in New Iberia.
“I want people to think of us when they need bread for their child’s lunch or a thoughtful item for a gathering. Knowing our products’ source and quality is something I hope resonates with everyone who visits,” she said.
