A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Jorge Antonio Martinez will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia. Fr. Gregory Daigle, a dear friend of the Martinez family, will be the celebrant. Following the Mass, Mr. Martinez will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Pilar Blasco Martinez, at Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Friday, from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass.

Jorge was born in Colon, Cuba on February 16, 1936.  He had a passion for music, reading, cooking and his beloved Cuba. Anyone he met was an opportunity to be kind and to encourage. His legacy will live on in the hearts and thoughts of all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter, Jorge G. Martinez of New York City and Pillie Martinez Morrison and husband Dr. David Morrison of New Orleans; his grandchildren, Celina G. Morrison and Benjamin D. Morrison; his niece, Lupe Lamadrid of Baton Rouge; and his nephew, Victor Lamadrid and wife Mandy, along with their children Javier, Tomas, Rafael, and Luis of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pilar Blasco Martinez; his parents, Miguel Ismael Martinez and Juana Rosa Ramirez; and his sister, Yolanda Martinez.
