Violet Alexander Patout, 94, residing in Montgomery, Texas, at time of passing, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025. She was born in New Iberia, Louisiana, to Goldie Thibodeaux Alexander and Lester Alexander.

A woman of many talents and boundless curiosity, Violet embraced life with a passion for learning, creativity, and community. As a child, she performed in plays and, in the third grade, took it upon herself to teach her classmates for a week in the absence of a teacher. A bright and diligent student, she was a straight-A scholar through the seventh grade and later received the prestigious Mu Sigma honor for her academic excellence in high school. She was also class secretary, a member of the football court, and was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizenship Pin for her exemplary character.

Violet had a deep love for nature and the arts. She was a dedicated member and past president of the New Iberia Garden Club, sharing her knowledge of plants and even teaching others how to propagate roses from cuttings. An accomplished artist, her work was showcased annually by Shadows on the Teche’s “Shadows-on-the-Bayou” art exhibit. She also served as past president of L’Acadien Art Guild and was a proud member of the DAR.

Her love of music was evident throughout her life. She sang in the choirs of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and the local Baptist Christmas choir, as well as the Presbyterian Church choir in her youth.

Above all, Violet cherished her family. She is survived by her children: Rene Patout, Jr. (Debbie), Yvonne Patout Trapani, David Patout (Celia), Douglas Mark Patout (Tina), Mary Celeste Patout Boyd (Keith), and Scott Patout; her siblings: Charles Alexander (Darlene), Charlotte A. Lazaro, and Frankie Landry; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rene Patout, Sr.; her son, Lester Patout; and her parents, Lester and Goldie Thibodeaux Alexander.
