Jamboree opens 2011-12 girls’ prep basktball season

LOREAUVILLE — The 2011-2012 girls basketball season got under way Thursday night with a trio of jamboree games at Loreauville High School.

In the opener, St. Martinville edged Loreauville 21-19. The second game of the night had New Iberia Senior High taking care of Jeanerette 35-8, and the final game saw Westgate beat Breaux Bridge 26-25.

All three games of the jamboree were played with two 10 minute halves.

The regular season gets under way Monday.

St. Martinville 21, Loreauville 19

Abreanna Alexander scored 11 points for SMSH, which also got 6 points from Shawntell Alfred.

St. Martinville scored 13 points in the first half and added 8 in the second.

Loreauville led 15-13 at halftime, but only scored 4 points in the second half as SMSH rallied for the win.

Dante Zacharie led LHS with 10 points. Keri Judice had 5 points and Tyler Gaddison chipped in 4.

New Iberia 35, Jeanerette 8

Moesha Kinard had 10 of her game-high 12 points in the first half for the Lady Jackets, who led 17-3 at halftime.

Lori Jolivette had 8 points, Chynna Brooks added 7 points and Dynesha Gilliam and Emily Pellerin each had 3 points for the Lady Jackets.

Kristie Rideaux led Jeanerette with 6 points.

Westgate 26, Breaux Bridge 25

Shayne Charles scored 14 points as Westgate held a 10-point halftime lead at 19-9, then survived a second-half rally from Breaux Bridge for the win.

Daniela Hawk added 7 points and Kyka Charles scored 3 points for the Lady Tigers.

Breaux Bridge was led by Jasmine LeBlanc and Torrie Roy, who each scored 8 points.
