A Home Going Celebration will be held for Mr. Felton Clay Sr., 89, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Fletcher Funeral Home Chapel, New Iberia with Rev. Zack Mitchell officiating. He will await the resurrection at St. Matthew Cemetery, New Iberia.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday at the Funeral Home 7 a.m. until time of service.
Felton was resident of New Iberia; he was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 2 of New Iberia and he retired from Austin Bridge Co. Mr. Clay was known as making the best pecan candies, which he enjoyed doing. Felton enjoyed life and most of all loved being with his family. On January 2, 2012, Felton peacefully left this life for a better place. We will miss the love he shared and his tender smile. He was loved by many family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory and in God’s care one son Felton Clay Jr.; two daughters Mary L. Clay and Rena Clay all of New Iberia; one step daughter Josie Mitchell (Rev. Zack) and her children Zakea, Joseph (Kelly), Zack Jr. (Kristin) of New Iberia, Joshua Mitchell of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren Jusef R. Clay of New Iberia, Christopher Clay of Houston, Texas and Kevin Clay of New Orleans; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He now joins in glory with his parents, Joseph Clay Sr., and Doriska J. Clay; one son Russell R. Clay; seven brothers Alfred, Adam, Robert, Henderson, Alton, Whitney Sr. and Rev. Joseph Clay Jr.; five sisters Alberta Williams, Nella Williams, Gladys Tauriac, Golden Davis and Loriska Dejean.
Active pallbearers will be, Jusef R. Clay, Zack Mitchell Jr., Christopher Clay, Brian Foxworth and Michael Foxworth.
Honorary pallbearers will be Felton Clay Jr., Anderson Clay Sr., W. J. Turner, Wilfred Placide, Ernest Robinson, Michael Tauriac Sr., Herbert Dominque, Kevin Clay, Michael Tauriac Jr. and Nelson DeJean.
