Mildred K. Estis

New Iberia–A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mildred K. Estis, age 91 on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with the Very Revered Ann Brown Etheredge as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and resume on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. until 10: 30 p.m.
Mildred Koch Estis was born in New Iberia, LA on March 6, 1933. She passed peacefully at her residence on September 30, 2024.
Mildred graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 1951. She then graduated from U.L.L. and LSU (Master of Education.) She took many courses from McNeese and Mississippi State. She taught for 13 years at Hopkins St. School as a fifth and sixth-grade teacher. She coached students in sports after hours. Mildred also served as lead of the Title I Reading Program for over 13 years. She finished her educational career as a Primary Supervisor for nearly five years—retiring with over thirty years. Mildred loved sports, playing and coaching volleyball, basketball, and track and field. She started a local group participating in the Sr. Olympics in Lafayette, Lake Charles, and San Antonio. She earned many medals in horseshoe, badminton, softball, volleyball, shuffleboard, track, shotput, etc. She helped start the Solomon House Brown Bag Food Program and she volunteered for over 20 years. Mildred volunteered at Dautrieve Hospital for over 15 years, then continued her volunteering at Iberia Medical Center. Mildred was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mildred is survived by her daughter Gwendolyn E. Norman, and husband Richard Norman. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren; granddaughter, Jennifer M Pauwels, husband Jacob Pauwels, grandson, Ryan P Estis, wife Lauren B. Estis, granddaughter, Ashlee M Trochesset, husband Jared Trochesset, granddaughter Brittney E. Fritz, husband Shaun Fritz, grandson Andrew Norman, wife Holly Norman and grandson Matthew Norman; her great-grandchildren, Kylie Trochesset, Paige Pauwels, Kaydence Trochesset, Peyton Estis (Gail Viator-mother), Jacob Pauwels, Brooklynn Morse, Blake Trochesset, Emerson Delahoussaye, Camden Frederick, Rylan Estis, Ashor Fritz, Ellie Norman, Loreile Norman, Kora Norman, Andrew Norman, Jr., and many nieces, nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Coudroy Koch and Charles Arthur Koch; her husband Willis “Lum” Estis Sr.; Her sister Jessie Dunnack; brothers, Noel Koch and Charles Koch Jr; her sons, Willis “Buddy” Estis Jr., and Mark Estis. And her grandson Jerry “Bubba” Morse.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Ryan Estis, Peyton Estis, Richard Norman, Jacob Pauwels, Matthew Norman, Andrew Norman, Robert Koch, Steve Koch, and Jared Trochesset.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Azalea Estates and caretakers- Elva Ford, Laura Bellard, and Jane Armstead for the compassionate care they gave to Ms. Mildred. A special thank you to Heart of Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
