Ashley DuBois set the tone early for the Erath Lady Bobcats, driving the lane and drawing three early fouls to help EHS take an early lead against Catholic High in a non-district encounter Friday night.
DuBois finished with 8 points, all from the free throw line, and the Lady Bobcats pulled away late for a 39-21 win over their former district rivals. DuBois went 8-for-10 from the free throw line, with Erath converting 10 of 16 foul shots as a team.
“We’ve been working on taking it to the goal hard,” said Erath coach Andrea Bernard, whose team improved to 15-11 overall. “I would’ve liked to make the layups instead of going to the line, but I will take that. We shot free throws well.”
Erath led 12-4 after one quarter with DuBois scoring 6 points in the quarter and Alexis Harrington adding 4. The Lady Bobcats were up 16-9 at halftime as the two teams struggled offensively.
But Harrington added 8 more points in the second half, finishing with 14, and EHS outscored Catholic High 14-4 in the fourth quarter to break the game wide open.
Lexi Landry had 6 of her team-high 8 points in the second half for Catholic High, including all 4 of her team’s points in the fourth quarter. Allison LeGendre, who was 3-for-3 at the free throw line, had 7 points for the Lady Panthers.
Three other players scored 2 points apiece.
“We had a really good defensive game tonight,” said Bernard.
DuBois finished with 8 points. Alaina Harrington had 7, Caitlin Domingue added 6 and Megan Norris had 4 for EHS.
The Lady Bobcats play a couple of huge District 9-3A games this week, Monday at Abbeville and Friday at home against North Vermilion.
Erath is 5-2 in district. Abbeville, ranked seventh in 3A, is 7-0 and North Vermilion is 6-1.
“Those are two big games for us in one week,” said Bernard.
Catholic High resumes District 6-2A action Tuesday at Jeanerette, then plays at Delcambre on Friday.
