Locals earn composite Academic All-State honors

Seven local girls and three local boys will be honored at halftime of this weekend’s LHSAA soccer state championship games at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans after being named to the association’s composite Academic All-State teams.

To earn composite team honors, a senior student-athlete’s six-semester GPA must be one of the 18 highest in all seven classifications.  If there are any ties at the eighteenth position, all student-athletes are placed on the composite team.

All 10 Teche Area athletes are carrying 4.0 grade point averages.

The composite team is comprised of athletes from all classificiations/ divisions.

Earning composite girls’ honors were Catholic High’s Sydney Lahasky and Taylor Lahasky in Division III, Erath’s Samantha  Cawyer in Division II and New Iberia’s Anna Cavalier and Alexis Romero and Westgate’s Morgan Bulliard and Kathy Huynh in Division I.

Jacob Primeaux of Catholic High (Division III), Ryan Poche of Erath (Division II) and Colby Delahoussaye of New Iberia (Division I) are the area boys players’ earning composite honors.

Cawyer will be honored at halftime of the Division  II girls’ finals today between Vandebilt Catholic and Teurlings Catholic. Poche will be honored at halftime of today’s St. Louis-Ben Franklin championship game.

The Lahaskys will be honored at halftime of Saturday’s Division III girls’ final between Sacred Heart of New Orleans and Episcopal of Baton Rouge.

Primeaux will be honored at halftime of the Country Day-Northlake Christian boys’ Division II final Saturday.

Cavalier, Romero, Huynh and Bulliard will be honored during the Division I girls’ final between Mt. Carmel and St. Scholastica.

Delahoussaye will be honored Saturday night at halftime of the Division I boys’ final between Jesuit at St. Paul’s.
