Smothered Cabbage

1 large cabbage chopped

1 large onion chopped

1 large bell pepper chopped

1 jalapeño pepper chopped

A pinch of baking soda

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Seasoning of choice (salt, pepper or mixed)

1 pound Hillshire Smoke Sausage chopped

1 pack salt meat boiled and chopped in small sized bites

In a medium-sized magnetite pot add a little cooking oil. Add chopped cabbage and water to a level halfway of the cabbage. Boil for 30 minutes. Add all other ingredients except meats. Cook for another 45 minutes.

Then add meats and cook on medium heat for an hour or until cabbage becomes brown., like mashed potatoes. Season to taste. Other meats are optional: andouille, fresh sausage, ham, bacon, turkey necks.
