Dragons on Bayou Teche? Absolutely! The First Acadiana Dragon Boat Festival will be held Saturday, March 23 in Bouligny Plaza in downtown New Iberia. Presented by the Iberia On Tap organization, all proceeds will benefit the New Iberia City Park Playground Enhancement Project, a citizen-funded project to bring state-of-the-art playground equipment to New Iberia. brParticipants will race dragonboats on the Teche to compete for the Dragon Boat Champion title. Dragonboat teams will launch from the P.J. Allain Waterfront Development located at 109 N. Weeks Street. The race is 200 meters and participants need to be at least 16. The teams will have the opportunity to train with a professional dragon boat coach during practice one week before the festival, and will race at least twice during the event. brAny group can participate from individuals to businesses, organizations, civic groups, churches, clubs, fraternities/sororities, etc. Winners will receive medals.
