Festival Building to be declared surplus

The Iberia Parish Council will introduce an ordinance declaring the Sugar Cane Festival Building surplus property and authorize the transfer of the building to the City of New Iberia at Wednesday’s regular meeting.
The introductory ordinance comes after the parish government and city government inch closer to a deal in letting the City of New Iberia assume responsibility for the Sugar Cane Festival Building. Parish council members have said for months that the repairs needed for the building, although needed, were low on the priority least compared to other parish projects and perhaps city government could focus on the necessary work.
In other business, the council will vote to place a member on the Iberia Parish Veterans Memorial Building Advisory Board and Jeanerette Veterans Memorial Building Advisory Board at the meeting.
A resolution amending the 2024 Public Buildings Maintenance Budget in the amount of $5,682 to appropriate funding for air conditioning repairs at the Iberia Parish Jail will be voted on as well.
Another resolution authorizing the parish president to execute a cooperative endeavor agreement with Bayou Teche Water Works for the expansion of a water line to Bayou Road will be voted on as well.
The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Iberia Parish Courthouse.
