SWAINSBORO, Ga. — Mr. Merle D. Anderson, 86, a resident of Swainsboro, Ga., died Tuesday evening at his residence. Mr. Anderson was born in Oilton, Okla., son of the late David E. and Edna Fowler Anderson and had lived in New Iberia prior to moving to Swainsboro. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII, having served as an MP in Germany. He stood Color Guard for General Omar Bradley. Mr. Anderson had retired from Texaco Inc. in 1983. He had served as pastor of various churches in Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma over 15 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, New Iberia, and attended Harvester Baptist Church in Swainsboro. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by brother Elmer Anderson, his twin brother Earl Anderson; and two half-brothers Olvry “OI” Randall and Raymond “Doc” Randall.
Funeral services for Mr. Merle D. Anderson will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Brother Andrew Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Tomlinson Funeral Home Thursday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Lee Anderson, of Swainsboro, Ga.; two sons Dale (Cathy) Crawford of New Iberia and David (Connie) Anderson of Swainsboro, Ga.; daughter Debbie (Gene) Bush of Largo, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
