Merrill eyes mayor pro tem post in New Iberia

Current District 4 New Iberia Cty Councilman David Merrill will be vying for New Iberia City Council mayor pro tem in November’s election.
Merrill said he wants to provide rapid responses to New Iberia residents’ concerns, enhance neighborhood growth and safety, further youth participation and social justice and build close working relationships with Iberia Parish Government.
During his tenure as District 4 City Councilman, Merrill said he has created an effective neighborhood watch program in District 4 that generated neighborhood watch programs in districts throughout the city.
He also earned achievement awards for the mayor’s After School Program in 2008-2009 and 2012. Merrill helped the city to receive grant money to install sidewalks along Jefferson Terrace Boulevard and the traffic light at Dale Street.
Merrill also said he updated Bank Street Park with new playground equipment and a concessions facility.
Merrill has been a City Councilman for District 4 since 2009. He has been a mentor for the buddies program, a SMILE board remember for New Iberia since 2013, a member of the Civil Service Board from 2007 to 2008 and Vice President and Secretary for the Men of Standard Bible Study Group from 2003 to 2010.
Mayor Pro Tem oversees all districts in New Iberia.
