Former teacher seeks to be mayor

Real estate broker and former educator Steven Stansbury will be running for mayor of New Iberia.
Stansbury, 61, is a lifelong resident of New Iberia, licensed Louisiana real estate broker and while he was teaching at New Iberia Senior High School was a department chairman.
According to a prepared statement, Stansbury’s “Grow New Iberia” concept involves locating new businesses and new residential development here “because our tax base has been lost to Lafayette, Youngsville and Broussard.”
Stansbury said he wants all offi ces at City Hall to reflect that concept.
“He wants to keep all our best and brightest and stop the young people from leaving to locate all over the U.S.,” according to the statement.
Stansbury is a 1972 graduate of New Iberia Senior High School. He earned a bachelor of arts at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in 1976 and an master’s of arts from the university in 1980.
