Mr. Dauterive died on May 8, 2017, at Iberia Medical Center.

Eddie was a lifelong resident of New Iberia and member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He was a graduate of St. Peter’s College, class of 1956, and attended SLI from 1956-1958. He enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard in 1959 and was honorably discharged on August 19, 1965, with the rank of staff sergeant.

In 1958 Eddie joined his father at Dauterive Marine, the family business. He later went into business with his brother Donald when they co-owned Dauterive Cycle Sales. When they sold the business, he worked in the automotive sales industry at various dealerships. Eddie retired from Lapeyrouse Motors in 2016.

In his youth, Eddie was involved in the Boy Scouts of America and with the Explorer Scouts throughout his high school years. He had fond memories of camping out and especially of his trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Always the outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, spending time at the duck camp and boating and water skiing at Cypremort Point.

He was also a member of Iberia Golf and Country Club and served on the board of directors.

In his spare time, Eddie’s favorite hobby was servicing computers and learning the ins and outs of the latest technology. He was well-known for his humor, wit and spontaneous wisecracks, which will be missed by his family and friends.
