Memorial services are scheduled for Mr. Jacob George Stansbury Jr., 70, on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Acadian Funeral Home. The service will be held at noon with Pastor Paul Fontenot of the Lydia United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. The interment will be private.
Jacob was born on December 7, 1946. His parents were Jacob George Stansbury Sr. and Della Migues Stansbury. He passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017, at 7:10 a.m. after an extended illness.
Jacob attended Dodson Elementary School, Elizabeth Forgey Junior High and graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 1964. Jacob attended USL and studied engineering.
As a young man Jacob was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and in 1964 he reached the rank of an Eagle Scout. He loved to study chemistry and had his own lab set up in his parent’s garage. He was an artist and studied under Ella Keene. At the age of fourteen, he won the Grand Sweepstakes for a painting at the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival. He and his brother Bill were in the Civil Air Patrol. They rescued many people during Hurricane Hilda. Jacob was also in the ROTC, as he wanted to fly in the Air Force but his eyesight was not 20/20.
He dated and would later marry Kay Bryant. They had a son together, Jacob Stansbury III. Kay and Jacob, as much as they both loved each other, things didn’t work out for them. He would later marry Marlene McNett.
Jacob was an intelligent person. His first job was as an electrician for Sorrell Electric Company. He was among the first to learn about computers and relocated to Houston to work for Con Select. He served as a logging engineer for Dresser Atlas. He sold cars for a while working for McMahon-Musson.
In 1976, he received his real estate license and worked for American Realty. He received his certified real estate appraiser license in Chicago in 1980. He served as a commercial and residential real estate appraiser for various banks and savings and loans and was well known for his attention to detail with his appraisals. He sold houses, commercial property and did appraisals for his father’s real estate company, Jacob G. Stansbury Real Estate. He remained active in the business until retiring in 1995.
Jacob over the years enjoyed golfing, bowling and was a pinball wizard. His love of computers led him to instruct under privileged children how to operate a computer. He would build each child a computer and then donate the computer to the child. He was an avid philosophical writer. He wrote about his views on society and people.
Jacob would have wanted to thank several people that was a part of his life. First was his physicians that kept him going over the years including Dr. William Harkrider, the family of Dr. Weeks Dauterive both who saved his life in 1982. Secondly, his doctors of more recent years Dr. Angela Langlinais, Dr. Paul Gullotta, Dr. Edgar Fineberg, Dr. Thomas Borland, Dr. Errol Pujol, Dr. Bennett Todd Bacquet, Dr. Kurt O’Brien, Dr. Thomas Curry and Dr. Bob Nugent.
Thanks to his caregivers including Heart of Hospice, Elaine and Linda and Mary Boudreaux.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his son Jacob Stansbury III and wife, Lori, of Delmar, New York; his brothers William “Bill” Stansbury and wife, Lynda, of Terrell, Texas, and Steven James Stansbury and his partner, Alvin Stutts, of New Iberia; his grandchildren Abby Stansbury of McKinney, Texas, and Jacob Bryant Stansbury IV of Delmar, New York; and nieces Heather Winkleman and Holly Beard and husband, Glenn.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated in Jacob’s name to The First United Methodist Church, 119 Jefferson Street. New Iberia, LA 70560.
