The New Iberia Kiwanis Club celebrated its Key Club seniors Thursday afternoon with a luncheon in order to show appreciation to the students and sponsors who worked hard throughout the year.
Duston Romero with the Kiwanis Club said more than 155 students in Iberia Parish serve in the three active Key Clubs in Iberia Parish. Students from New Iberia Senior High, Catholic High and Highland Baptist Christian School were on-site Thursday to take part in the luncheon.
Some of the activities that Key Clubbers have taken part in throughout the year include the Children’s Parade and of course the Kiwanis Pancake Supper.
The club sold a record 871 pancakes through their Key Clubs for the supper, with more than 80 club members showing up to assist when the supper took place.
“This is to show our appreciation for you guys,” Romero said. “The pancake supper would definitely not be possible without you.
Students like Mariah Vital from Catholic High said her experience in the Key Club helped her not only make friends but also get firsthand experience serving the community that she wants to continue further in life.
“Key Club for me has helped form new relationships, not just at school but in the community,” Mariah said. “I wouldn’t have been able to do that without Key Club.”
The students were treated to lunch as well as a speech from Mike Maness, who gave the students a lengthy talk telling the students to follow their dreams.
