Allain said he always considered himself a Jeanerette resident and was proud to work for the benefit of the community during his 12 years in office. He will not run for re-election due to being term limited.

“I’m happy to bring these things home,” he said. “In the senate the Legislature, when people respect you and have respect for what you’re doing, that cooperation by your colleagues is what allows you to bring funds home because you can tell them that these are real needs in your community.”

Allain also introduced his son Robert Allain, who is one of the candidates for the state senate race to replace the longtime legislator.

“I wish your next senator well because he’s the guy that can bring you money,” he said.
