A blown tire on a tractor-trailer traveling on Jefferson Island Road caused the big rig to leave the highway and resulted in a portion of the highway being closed for about 90 minutes while a tow truck extricated it Thursday morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop I Public Affairs Officer Brooks David, the big rig was eastbound on Louisiana 675 just east of Grand Prairie Road when the driver’s side tire had a blowout. The truck, which was hauling an empty gooseneck flatbed trailer, left the roadway and came to rest in the front yard of a home along the road.
Although there were no injuries and no diesel fuel leaked from the vehicle, it took more than an hour for a tow truck to retrieve the vehicle. Its front wheels were torn from the chassis, making its recovery more difficult.
There were no other vehicles invloved in the crash.
Louisiana State Police responded to the scene. The recovery process was not completed until almost 1 p.m.
According to David, there were no citations issued in the incident.
