Council to approve veteran building repairs

The Iberia Parish Council will vote to make repairs for American Legion Post 549 Harry Eugene in Jeanerette at Wednesday’s meeting.

If approved, the council will fund $16,350 for ceilings, grids, fans, tiles and lights in the hall and kitchen for the building; $15,579 for paneling and molding around the public area; $20,192 for cleaning and painting frames, doors, cabinets, trimming and all required painting; and $2,500 for floor stripping and waxing.

The agenda item was deferred at the Aug. 14 council meeting.

In other business, the council will vote to order and call a public hearing to be held on Dec. 4 for public comments for the proposed Consolidated Budget Statement for 2025.

The council will vote to approve several members to various parish boards and commissions, including the Acadiana Fairgrounds Commission, Fire Protection District No. 1, Iberia Parish Hospital Service District No. 1 and Iberia Parish Veterans Memorial Building Advisory Board.

Chez Hope Domestic Violence Advocate Kelly Cantu will address the council regarding October being proclaimed as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

President of Acadian Ambulance Explorer Post 108 Eli Anderson will provide information for their enrollment meeting, and Raymond “Shoe-Do” Lewis will address the council about his candidacy for Iberia Parish tax assessor.

The meeting takes place 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Iberia Parish Courthouse.
