The Iberia Parish Council is set to vote on a resolution that would extend the moratorium on solar farms in the parish for an additional year at Wednesday’s meeting.
If approved, the resolution would bar the development, establishment and construction of solar farms in unincorporated areas of Iberia Parish for a period of one year. The resolution is being introduced by Councilman James Trahan.
The council will also hear from two residents in the parish who will speak about their concerns regarding solar farms being built in the parish during the joint committee portion of the meeting.
In other business, the council will introduce the millage rates for the fiscal year. Those include several increases, according to the agenda, with the General Parish going from 4.04 to 4.12 mills; Exempted Municipalities (Criminal Tax) from 2.02 to 2.06 mills; Public Building Maintenance going from 4.65 to 4.76 mills; Public Health Unit going from 2.06 to 2.11 mills and Drainage going from 3.91 to 4 mills.
The rates will be voted for adoption at a future meeting.
The council’s finance committee will also take the initial steps to repair the air conditioning unit at the Sugar Cane Festival Building. If approved, the committee will use American Rescue Plan Act funds in the amount of $35,000 to make repairs to the building’s air conditioning unit, which has been in need of repair for several months.
