- Councilman Dustin Suire will resign from the New Iberia City Council following his election to the Iberia Parish Council.
New Iberia City Councilman Dustin Suire is set to speak at Tuesday’s council meeting in what is expected to be his last time serving in the role.
Suire won a bid for Iberia Parish Council District 7 after he qualified with no opposition last summer. The councilman has been serving on the City Council for nearly two terms and will now be a representative on the Iberia Parish Council.
Suire will be replacing Iberia Parish Councilman Paul Landry, who did not run for re-election.
He is expected to make a final farewell to the council during Tuesday’s meeting. Mayor Freddie DeCourt and the City Council will be making an interim appointment in the coming weeks to replace Suire, and an election for an official replacement will take place next year.
In other business, Amanda Schroeder with Communities in Schools is also slated to address the council to discuss her partnership with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Brianna Davis with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana will provide an update on the program in Iberia Parish.
The council will vote on an ordinance to amend the rules of procedure of the Board of Trustees related to the Americans with Disabilities Act during the meeting as well.
An ordinance amending the budget to recognize the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Grant will also be voted on.
The meeting will take place 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at New Iberia City Hall.
