More than 100 car enthusiasts are in the Teche Area this week as Cruisin Cajun Country takes its participants all around Iberia Parish.

Cruisin Cajun Country President John Chauvin said around 130 people have showed up to participate in this year’s event, which included a tour of Albania Plantation Thursday where cars were shown while those attending could explore the beautiful scenery of the Jeanerette plantation.

Chauvin said the weather for the week had detracted some interested people from attending this year’s Cruisin Cajun Country, but despite the weather there was still a large turnout of enthusiastic people from Louisiana and beyond.

“Everything’s been going great,” Chauvin said.

A variety of beautiful vehicles were on display at the Albania Plantation Thursday. Candle making and even massage therapists were also apart of the event along with tours of the house and music and food while friends and family who were part of Cruisin Cajun Country relaxed outside.

Cruisin Cajun Country was founded by Jimmy Chauvin to draw more car enthusiasts to the Teche Area. John Chauvin said Iberia Parish is always the home base for the event, but the organization does expand out to surrounding parishes as part of the tour of Cajun country.

That included Lafayette this year, where participants had lunch Friday as well as explored Gator Cove. The caravan moved back to New Iberia Friday night, where plans were made for an exhibition in Bouligny Plaza.

A fais-do-do is also planned Saturday at the Hampton Inn, which will bring this year’s event to a close.
