Entre Nous Club of Jeanerette taking scholarship applications

JEANERETTE — The Entre Nous Club of Jeanerette is accepting applications for its $1,000 college scholarship given out as $500 per semester for one school year.

Applicants must have a Jeanerette ZIP code (70544). The Entre Nous Scholarship is open to both traditional and non-traditional or “returning” students at any point in their college studies, and past recipients of the scholarship may apply.

Current or former members of Entre Nous, their children and grandchildren are not eligible for the scholarship.

Criteria considered for the scholarship include financial need, ACT score, class ranking, a high school diploma or G.E.D., acceptance at a college or university as a fulltime student and a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Applicants must return a completed application form along with two letters of recommendation, one of which must be school-related. The other letter be be from a personal contact who is not a relative.

Applicants also must submit a high school or college transcript or the equivalent and be available for a personal interview.

The scholarship was established in 1996. It is renewable but not automatic. The scholarship award will be announced in May for the 2018-19 academic year.

Half of the scholarship funds are disbursed in August upon receipt of proof of full-time college enrollment. The other half is disbursed in January upon receipt of evidence of a minimum GPA of 3.09 and fulltime spring enrollment.

Application forms and supporting materials are due to the scholarship chairperson by April 19 for consideration for the 2018-19 academic year.

Applicants for the Entre Nous Club of Jeanerette Scholarship must:

• Have a Jeanerette ZIP code (70544) for their home address

• Not be, or not be the child or grandchild, of a current or former Entre Nous member

• Be accepted to a college or university as a fulltime student

• Have a GPA of at least 3.0

• Complete an application form and turn in two letters of recommendation and a high school or college transcript

• Other criteria include financial need,  ACT score, class ranking and a high school diploma or G.E.D.
