It’s been eight months since Lester Hebert made the jump to open mic stand-up comedy, and since that time he has slowly embedded himself in the Acadiana comedy scene and hopes to spread the community to New Iberia.

Hebert, a Thibodaux native and longtime New Iberia resident, had been making funny social media videos for a long time and would often get suggested to try his hand at stand-up comedy.

“I kept putting it off until I finally decided to try it, and it went great,” Hebert said. “The crowd was probably half my people. Your family and friends show up the first time you try it, so it was kind of built for success.”

Thibodaux describes his comedy as more observational, focusing on his upbringing in south Louisiana.

“I base a lot of my routing on where I’m from,” he said.

The 2008 Westgate High School graduate has since performed in Houma, Beaumont, Texas and Baton Rouge, and will soon be taking that routine to Bric’s on Main in New Iberia on May 15.

The owner of Bric’s on Main, a longtime friend of Hebert’s, suggested that he perform at the bar and Hebert immediately took to the idea. The show will be the first one he has ever produced and is bringing Louisiana comedy heavy-hitters John Merrifield, Don Schexnayder and Jeremy Crawford to perform in New Iberia as part of the comedy show. Hebert will also be performing for the show.

Hebert said he hopes to put on a monthly New Iberia show if Wednesday’s show is well-received. The roughly hour-and-a-half event will be $5.
