Iberia Parish was inundated with a heavy amount of rainfall Thursday night and Friday morning, leading to a rapid influx of water early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, Iberia Parish received about 5.1 inches of rain during a 24-hour period Friday morning, with more showers in the still occurring by the time of measurement.
Flooding issues were apparent in several areas of New Iberia, especially St. Peter Street where traffic had to form a single lane in order to avoid the flooded corners on each side of the road.
Reports of flooding in the West End were also part of the heavy rainfall, and the Bayou Teche was several inches higher than usual.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office did not close any roads as a result of the weather conditions, but said in a prepared statement that standing water was affecting parts of the parish and drivers should be cautious when driving.
