The book sale includes every genre of hardcover books, and everything is half price on Sunday. No paperbacks will be sold at the book sale.

Following the book sale will be the library’s inaugural Winter Wonder Fest Saturday, Dec. 16 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The free event will take place in the courtyard in front of New Iberia City Hall. If the event faces inclement weather conditions, it will be moved indoors. No chairs or blankets will be provided, so attendees will have to bring their own seating. Snacks are welcome, but ice chests and coolers are not.

Holiday and winter-themed games such as Winter Ring Toss and Grinch Bowling will be available for kids until 5 p.m. The festival will feature a variety of winter-themed arts and crafts inside the library. They will hand out goodie bags containing bookmarks and classic holiday treats such as gingerbread and candy canes, but only while supplies last. Musicians from the New Iberia Senior High Brass and Woodwind Concert Ensemble will close the night out with a performance of songs of the season starting at 5 p.m.

According to Erica Landreneau Romero they wanted to replicate the same excitement and engagement with the library that comes from the Terror-on-the-Teche event, and wanted to implement themes traditionally associated with the holidays.

“We thought, ‘So what if we did one around the holidays?’ Whenever I think of Christmas, I think of music, so I said, ‘Why don’t we have one of the high school bands come out and perform?’” Landreneau said.

Following the Winter Wonder Fest, Mike Anderson will return Dec. 21. Similar to his last appearance two years ago, he will tell stories as Hugo Cringle, Santa’s little brother. They will be lighthearted stories about growing up with Santa Claus for everyone to enjoy.

Landreneau said they really hope the Winter Wonder Fest and the rest of the events are a success.

“We are really looking forward to this. This is our first one and we want it to go really, really well so we can keep this winter tradition going,” Landreneau concluded.
